I chose clinical psychology for many reasons, I enjoy interacting with people and getting to know them on a person level, I also enjoy helping people, which is what clinical psychology is all about. Clinical psychology focuses on the diagnosing and creative treatment plans for people with mental illness and psychiatric problems. In order to achieve a career In clinical psychology a doctorate is required. Most people after receiving they’re bachelors degree spend four to six years in graduate school. There are two degrees you can choose from a PH.D or a PSY.D, most students choose to receive a PSY.D becuase the course is a year shorter than the course for a PH.D. Clinical psychology is a lot of work but it doesn’t come without reward, in 2001 the APA concluded that the average salary for a clinical psychologist is $72,000. They usually work in medical setting such as hospitals or having your own practice is an option, some also work in academic settings.
